On a sunny day in Hobart, there lived a pair of siblings named Daisy and Max. Both Daisy and Max are adventurous and love to explore the world together. They have a miraculous brown wooden table in the living room that would bring them to whatever destination they wish.
"Magic table underneath, please bring us to the coldest place on Earth!” Max yelled. The table moved around swiftly, then quietness came. The children crawled from underneath the table and found themselves wearing six layers of clothing! There they stood at the world's coldest continent - Antarctica.
As they looked around the land of snow, they saw some penguins waddling towards them. “I think they're heading off to find food.” Daisy said. Curious to see how the penguins go hunting, the daring siblings sailed a small boat to spy on them.
Before they left, they overheard two penguins fighting over land. Their names were Percy and Parson. Max said to Daisy “They are fighting for land because of global warming. Look, the ice is melting.” Suddenly, Percy pushed Parson into the freezing ocean…
“How could Percy be so barbaric!” Daisy cried. Max points at a patch of ice on the glacier, showing Daisy how ice from all around the land was melting rapidly. Without question, their light-hearted trip had taken a wrong turn.
As they set sail, a penguin found something weird on the surface of the sea and thought it was food, so they jumped in. However, the colorful holographic film on the water was actually oil!
“I believe this oil comes from oil spills caused by factories nearby.” Max said. Since oil spill is toxic, the penguins could not float nor swim up to the surface. By then, it was too late for the kids to save the penguins.
Their boat arrived at another glacier where they saw two penguins laying their eggs. Daisy and Max watched them cautiously passing the eggs. VROOM! A white boat sailing around the glacier caught them off guard. The penguins turned back to find that the eggs were nowhere to be found...
Daisy and Max were dismayed by what they just witnessed. They found it baffling how penguin egg harvesting was still prevalent as it is an illegal practise. The penguin parents’ miserable faces had tears rolling down their eyes. It was an unbearable scene.
It was time to go home. The children were frightened and could not wait to tell their parents the horrifying things they observed. The penguins were faced with dangers of global warming, oil spill, illegal egg harvesting and starvation. Penguins should not be threatened by the harmful doings of humans.
“Magic table underneath, please take us back to our cozy beds!” Daisy yelled. Back in bed, they could not fall asleep because of the cruel images they had seen. They spent countless hours awake, hoping they will not get nightmares about their trip to Antarctica.
Moral: Humans must respect and take good care of animals and their natural habitat. By preventing different kinds of pollution and harming our natural environment, together we can protect our perfect planet and our lovable animals.
