No one knew that the Lam Family could talk to food. This super power was really special.

Kelly was the only child in her family. She thought reading was a part of her life. She read at breakfast. She read in the shower. She even dreamt about reading when she was sleeping!

On a warm and windy day in October, Kelly was preparing to go to the bookshop. It was her grandma’s birthday. She wanted to buy a book with a warm-hearted story for her grandma.

Kelly ran to the kitchen before going to a bookshop. She told the vegetables that they needed to think about the kind of soup they could make for grandma. When the door closed, the vegetables started to discuss.

‘I want to make mushroom soup!’ said Mushroom Max. ‘No, it’s not colourful enough! Let’s make cream soup with broccoli!’ said Broccoli Belle. ‘Corn soup is the best!’ cried Corn Chloe.

All vegetables were talking about their ideas at the same time and they made the kitchen very noisy. 'Everyone! We need to take turns to share our ideas!’ shouted Lettuce Lucy. They all agreed.

‘OK! Let me say first,’ said Tomato Tom rudely. ‘Tomatoes are yummy and juicy. We have a lot of vitamins which help people preventing cancer and heart disease. We are very beneficial to people. Why don’t we make tomato soup?’

‘Excuse me, I don’t agree with you,’ Carrot Cath said flatly. ‘I think it’s better to make carrot soup because carrots can help with digestion and good for people’ eyes. If you eat carrots, you will be clever and handsome. Just like me!’

‘Tomatoes are rich in nutrition!’ cried Tom. He was angry with Cath who looked arrogant. At the beginning they quarrelled with each other. Soon they started to fight.

Suddenly, Kelly’s dog, Becky, ran into the kitchen. It liked playing with the vegetables when there were no one at home. Becky jumped on the table and overturned a can of candy. A crowd of ants climbed up the table for their big meal.

Cath stumbled over the lid. The ants climbed on its body soon. He shouted, ‘Help me!’ Tom didn’t want to against his conscience so it saved Cath. Cath whispered, ‘Thank you.’ Meanwhile all vegetables ran around to escape from Becky and the ants.

Later all vegetables were exhausted. They wanted to take a rest. Cath had an idea. It told everybody to hide themselves in the fridge until the dog ran away.

Tom and Cath calmed down in the fridge. They knew that they needed to respect the others as all kinds of vegetables had their own strengths. They apologized to each other and decided to make minestrone soup together.

When Kelly came back, the vegetables shared their ideas with her. They worked well with one another and had fun together. Kelly was surprised for the change of the vegetables. They were excited in Grandma’s birthday party. Grandma loved the soup very much.
