Crack! Paul broke his mom’s favourite vase … again. He was always getting into trouble and making life difficult for everyone. Paul could be described in one word: troublemaker. He never studied or did his homework and he always got a big, fat zero on all his tests.

Peter was the complete opposite. Peter was smart, kind and brave. He always studied hard and got 100 marks on all his tests.

Everyone loved Peter … everyone except Paul.

One school day, Paul was in the bathroom talking to himself. “Okay, Paul, today is the day.”

“Today you’re going to rob a bank! You’ve been thinking about it for a long time and now you’re going to do it!” However, Paul didn’t know that Peter was listening right next door!

Peter kept a close eye on Paul and followed him after school with his dog, Smart.

“Why does Paul want to rob a bank?” asked Peter, shocked.

Peter followed Paul all the way to the bank. He was really going to do it!

    “Paul!” Peter shouted.

“Ahh!” screamed Paul. “You scared me!”

    “You can’t steal things!”

“Hahaha!” laughed Paul running away. “Try and stop me!” Peter chased Paul down the roads and up the hills but he still couldn’t catch him.

“What is Paul up to?” thought Peter panting.

The next day, Paul was thinking of ways to steal money without people noticing. He knew Peter would be watching the bank carefully.

    Suddenly, he had an idea!

At night, Paul thought he was clever by wearing a ghost costume to the bank, but he didn’t realise it could glow in the dark! Paul even tried making ghost noises to scare Peter away.

You can’t fool me, Paul,” said Peter and pulled off Paul’s costume.

Paul was furious! How could Peter be so smart? Quick as a flash, Paul ran away before Peter could even say “wait!”

The next day, Paul was in a foul mood. Peter had seen through all his plans! During lunch, he went up to his classmates.

“Everyone, give me your lunch money or else I’ll hit you!” Everyone was scared and began to cry.

    Just then, Peter walked in.

    “What happened?” he asked.

His classmates told him and Peter was horrified. He looked for Paul everywhere and found him in the playground stealing people’s money.

“Paul! Tell me why you’re stealing money or I’ll go straight to the principal,” shouted Peter.

“Oh no!” cried Paul, dropping the money on the floor.

Suddenly, Paul broke down in tears.

“My family used to be rich before my Dad passed away. Now we have nothing.” Paul sniffed.

“My mom doesn’t even have money to buy groceries!” His tears were like an endless waterfall. “It’s not fair that other people have money and I don’t,” he wailed.

Peter gave him a tissue. “I’m sorry your dad passed away, but I’m here if you need someone to talk to.”

At last, Paul and Peter became friends. They sat together in class and Peter even helped Peter with his homework. He started working harder and getting higher grades. Some students even gave some of their lunch to Paul. Sometimes people just need to understand why people do naughty things.
