A nice boy called Kevin lived in Australia in the outback. Australia had lots of different animals like the Kangaroo, penguin, platypus, wombat and koala. The Kangaroo was Kevin's favourite animal. He loved all animals and playing football in his garden.

One day, Kevin was playing football by himself in his garden. Suddenly, he kicked the ball so high that it flew into the bushland behind his house. The ball was lost so he decided to go and look for it. He was worried about snakes.

He was looking for the ball when he heard a noise in the grass. He saw a long green snake! He screamed and ran away as fast as he could. Suddenly, he saw a big metal cage in front of him. There was a Kangaroo in the cage.

The Kangaroo looked sad. Kevin talked to the Kangaroo and asked, "What are you doing in there?" The Kangaroo explained that he got caught by a hunter. The Kangaroo asked Kevin, "Will you help me escape, please?" Kevin said he would help him!

The boy saw the hunter sleeping nearby and the key hanging out from his pocket. He carefully got the key and opened the cage door. Then they escaped from the hunter before he woke up. They ran fast into the trees. Suddenly, they heard a shout. The hunter was awake.

They felt very very scared. They could hear the hunter running after them so they ran faster. Kevin started to run in a different direction but Kangaroo said, "Stop! Follow me, Kevin! I know where we can hide." The hunter ran after them.

The Kangaroo hopped to a secret hidden cave with Kevin. The hunter did not see them so they came out of the cave. The hunter stopped looking for them and he went home. The Kangaroo and Kevin were now completely safe.

Suddenly, Kevin realised he was really lost and Kevin started to cry. Kangaroo said to Kevin, "Please don’t cry. I will help you find your way home." Kangaroo wanted to help Kevin. He hugged Kevin and Kevin said, "Thank you so much. You are so kind."

Kangaroo used his nose to trace the boy's smell back to his home. As they walked, they played hide and seek and then Kangaroo found a ball. Kangaroo asked Kevin, "Is this your ball?" Kevin smiled. "Yes! Thank you, Kangaroo!" You are so kind!" said Kevin happily.

Kevin got back home safely. "Kangaroo, would you like some food?" asked Kevin. "Yes please," said Kangaroo. "What would you like, Kangaroo?" Kangaroo replied, "I like grass." Kevin said, "Come outside, you can eat grass here." Later, Kangaroo decided to go back to his home. They had become friends.

Kangaroo visited Kevin a lot and they played football together in the garden. They had so much fun! Kangaroo said thank you to Kevin for rescuing him. He said, "You are so kind for helping animals, Kevin. I will always help you too."

At the end of the summer, Kevin went back to school and told his class the story of the Kangaroo and the hunter. He explained, "It's important to help animals and be kind when they are in need of help. Animals help us too."
