The story was about a girl whose name is Lily. She got sick and needed to stay in the hospital since she was very young. She could not go to school or lived normally either not until her mother brought her a birthday gift on her tenth birthday.

The present was a magic pencil! Her mother told her a secret. Lily’s grandmother received her magic pencil when she was ten. Lily’s mother received the same magic pencil at the same age. The magic pencil could control one’s life. Her mother told her to keep the magic pencil well.

Lily loved the magic pencil very much. From that time onwards, she started to draw pictures with it. The pictures were as vivid as life. Flowers had the fragrance. The sun had the warmth.

Lily got well gradually and she could go home. She could even go to school. Every day, she used the magic pencil to draw pictures and made crafts. See! The eyes of the doll were so bright.

Lily could live normally. She was cheerful as she made many friends. The magic pencil accompanied with her wherever she went. They drew pictures. They wrote letters. They learnt together. Oh no! Lily used the magic pencil so much that it became short. She started to sharpen it.

Days by days, the magic pencil became shorter and shorter. By then it was half of its original length. Alas!

One day, Lily felt a terribly heart pain after she had sharpened the magic pencil with a pencil sharpener. She remembered her mother’s words. Her life span was shortened.

Lily tried her best to find out ways to make the magic pencil longer. She stretched it. She stuck some plastic onto it. She boiled it. All the methods did not work. Her mother was shocked. Lily still felt the pain once it had the magic pencil sharpened.

That night, she saw mother peeling a potato. She remembered how her grandmother used the knife in her childhood. She peeled potatoes and sharpened pencils in the same way. It did work. She could do the same.

Lily tried to sharpen the pencil with a knife. Amazing! She felt no pain at all. Since then, she cherished the magic pencil as well as her life.

Unfortunately, her mother passed away in a fatal accident when Lily was sixteen years old. Lily was very sad. She started to draw her family life with the magic pencil as she missed her mother very much. Her paintings were full of love and harmony. Lily became a famous artist.

Two years afterwards, the magic pencil was used up. Lily came to her last journey of life. ….Everyone has a magic pencil. We should cherish friendship and family in our life because we do not know when they won’t be around anymore.
