In a far away country, there was a princess called Melissa. Her mother died when she was born. After some time, the king married a princess from the neigbouring country. But he did not know that his new queen practised witchcraft.
The Queen was sad as her brother had an
illness that made him sleep all day. Though the king sent the best doctors, they could not heal him.
When the Queen had her own princess, Ella, her heart hardened on Melissa and cast a spell on her, giving her a continual headache. The Queen declared, “The spell will
not break unless she cures my brother.”
In an attempt to break the spell, Melissa and Ella had to pay a visit to their uncle. On their way through the forest, they saw some glowing kale on the hillside. They climbed up and plucked the vegetable.
Delayed by the detour,
they had to stay in the forest for the night. While Melissa took night watch, Ella fell asleep. In her dream, a fairy told her that a soup made with the glowing kale could cure the Queen’s brother.
But the fairy reminded her, “If
Melissa restores her physical fitness, you will lose the chance to the throne. Are you willing to give it up?”
She pondered deeply for the whole night. At dawn, she had a decision.
After they arrived at their uncle’s house, they immediately made the kale soup. Their uncle drank it
and was cured. The spell on Melissa also was broken.
Melissa said, “Thank you, Ella! Now let’s save your mother from witchcraft. We need to find her Spell Book.”
“It’s in our castle.” said their uncle, “I don’t live there anymore as it is haunted.
But I’ll lead you there.”
When they arrived, they forced open the door that was seized by rust. They went upstairs and entered a room, in which their uncle retrieved the Spell Book from a secret cavity. As they wanted to leave, there was a rumble at the door
as someone, or rather, something, tried to enter.
“We must leave now.” said their uncle.
They rushed to the window and slid down with Melissa clutching the book firmly. They returned home and told the king everything.
The king was shock about what the Queen had done
but he forgave her. The Queen repented as she saw her brother cured by the loving actions of the princesses. She could not practise witchcraft anymore as her Spell Book had been removed from her castle.
There was a countrywide party to celebrate. The king felt tired but relieved.
He retired and gave the throne Melissa.
Ella congratulated Melissa, “You are wise and kind. You are the best one to rule the country.”
Melissa said, “How can I rule alone? I order you to be my assistant.”
Together they ruled the country in great peace.1 / 11
